April 23-27, 2020
My days have melded together. Sometimes I don’t even know what day it is. What’s the point of keeping track anyway? I’m not going anywhere. I’ll never be late for anything since I’m just in the same location every single day!
For some reason, I wasn’t very good at planning my days last week. I had very important presentations to make and some deadlines to beat, I was mentally tired at the end of each day. Towards Friday, I had a couple of virtual parties to attend, one a going away party for a colleague moving to Southern California with her family. The irony is that she is moving to a town called Corona! No joke. We thought it was funny, too. Then that same evening, a birthday celebration across the continent. It’s not too bad. At least we’re still able to celebrate despite going nowhere!
One important thing happened before the end of the week. I have to document it because it is so telling of the kind of leader this person is – an ignorant and shallow man who thinks he’s the smartest person in the world. This is a very, very dangerous combination.
The President of the United States claimed over live television broadcast that exposure to UV light and/or use of bleach either by bathing in it or injecting it to a CoVid19-infected person can rid them of the viral infection! After a barrage of criticisms from the healthcare community and even the bleach producers, he and his people claim that his suggestion was just sarcasm. Imagine that! There’s now almost a million Americans infected with the virus and more than 50,000 dead yet NOT ONE SINGLE TIME did this person ever expressed empathy or sympathy to those people. All he cares about is his potential for reelection and the money he can rake in. We have to vote him out of office!
The other more positive milestone last week was, after 5.5 weeks, we drove out of the house! It felt so surreal. Like in a movie. Everything looks familiar yet unfamiliar. This must be how the bears coming out of hibernation feel like. It was fascinating and wonderful to see the City again. The other surreal thing is, after 5.5 weeks of being sheltered-in-place, the very first destination for us was the cemetery! It was my sister-in-law’s death anniversary. The visit also brought home the sad possibility that if our state and local governments do not do a good job at handling the re-entry of the general population to whatever new normal will be, a lot of us will end up 6 feet under. We’re still very much at war, we can’t let our guards down.
The battle continues. We very much need to be patient. We need to continue to stick together by staying apart to win!
